Best Short Film
Panther Martin, Terje Rangnes, Norway
The jury's statement: "The winner of the Award tells a story that expresses the frustrations of a family relationship with humor and realism. In 7 minutes it illustrates a divorced father and his son each stubbornly trying to communicate in his own way, balancing drama and comedy. This well-acted film does not waste a moment or a line of dialogue, and though we sense the outcome early on, the ultimate conclusion is both unexpected and satisfying"
Best Documentary
The German Secret (Den tyske hemmelighed), Lars Johansson, Denmark
The jury's statement: "The film we have awarded as the best
nordic documentary 2005 could have been a cliche taking us on a
journey, back in time, WW2, conventional storyteling a.s.o. But on top
of this, this film takes you gently by the hand, and as a the story
unfolds itself from A to B and then C and D you feel the strong and
honest trust and warmth between the man behind the camera and the woman
in front of it; and this without being naive or narcisistic. The
intimacy IS very present, but it doesn´t take away the focus of the
story, which first of all is yet ANOTHER love story, and also an
eyeopener in terms of understanding the complexity of being trapped in
between your own will and the world around you, between love and war.
This film combines content and form in a way that you don´t feel a
compromise, the excellent editing makes the time fly and when you think
you have it all figured out new and shocking information appears in
front of you."
